Building hope, meaning, and resilience for caregivers in the world of profound autism.

Uncommon Families is a trauma-informed non-profit dedicated to supporting caregivers of profoundly autistic loved ones.

We understand that profound autism brings lifelong challenges, deep grief, and overwhelming daily demands - but it also calls for profound love, resilience, and meaning.

Our mission is to build a healing, inclusive community where caregivers can access free and accessible emotional support, connect with others who truly understand, and find tools to reclaim hope and purpose.

Through peer support circles, grief and trauma resources, educational workshops, and compassionate online spaces, we walk alongside families navigating the world of profound autism.

No caregiver should have to walk this journey alone. Uncommon Families is here to help you carry the weight - and remind you that your life holds meaning, even in the hardest seasons.

Who We Are

Ashley Kaylor, Founder

Ashley is a mother and lifelong caregiver to Evan, a profoundly autistic individual. Like so many others walking this path, she has faced the deep grief, isolation, and relentless emotional weight that comes with loving someone whose needs never lessen. She started Uncommon Families because she saw the need for a space that acknowledges the unique trauma and complexity of this journey - a space where caregivers like us can find support, meaning, and hope again. This isn't just a project - it's her lived experience, and it's her heart.

Let's Work Together
